What The Bible Says About The Mind
2 Corinthians 4:1-4 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
2 Corinthians 3:14-18 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Philippians 2:5-8 (MEV) Let this mind be in you all, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped. But He emptied Himself, taking upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in the form of a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross.
1 Peter 4:1-2 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
1 Peter 1:13-16 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ
Ephesians 4:21-24 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Colossians 3:1-3 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Romans 8:5-8 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Matthew 22:37-39 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
Colossians 1:21-22 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight
Philippians 4:6-8 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

What keeping your eyes on Jesus looks like
Who is the bible all about?
John 5:39
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.
Why pray for God's Spirit before studying the bible?
1 Corinthians 2:13-14 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Who does the Holy Spirit glorify?
John 16:14 He will glorify Me [Jesus], for He will take of what is Mine [of Jesus] and declare it to you.
What happens when Jesus is lifted up?
John 12:32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.
What happens when you stay your mind on Jesus by faith?
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
You are to live by faith in what Jesus did for you, what did He do?
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
What dies when our lives are hidden in Christ?
Colossians 3:2, 5
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God... Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
How does Jesus teach us to live?
Ephesians 4:21-24 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
What happens as we behold the glory of Jesus?
2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord
Setting the Lord always before you keeps what from happening?
Psalm 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Jesus' Invitation: "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

The Golden Rule
When you look at the original words of Jesus in what is commonly known as the "golden rule" (in Matthew 7), you will notice that is begins with the word "therefore". Just before that, He was explaining how God is more than willing to give us good things when we ask Him, more than willing than we are to feed our children when they ask us for food.
This context is very important because shows us that what Jesus is actually saying is that what we do to others must be relevant to their situation of need. Doing to others what you’d want others to do to you wouldn't really make much sense outside of this context.
In the same context of the golden rule found in Luke's account, notice the verbs Jesus uses in explaining how to love our enemies: Do good (with your actions), Bless (with your words), and Pray (with your heart). If your enemies are people close to you, yet they shun you, refuse gifts and refuse to hear from you, you can still pray for them. Instead of letting our hearts be overcome by the evil of others, we may overcome evil with good.
Just before mentioning the golden rule, Jesus says that instead of retaliating against your enemies, do something good for them instead. Then afterward He says that by doing good without seeking anything in return, you'll reflect the mercy of God who is kind to the ungrateful and evil.
Here’s an interesting quote linking the golden rule with the narrow way:
The path which I have set before you, [Jesus] said, is narrow; the gate is difficult of entrance; for the golden rule excludes all pride and self-seeking. MB 138

Priorities and 20/20 Vision
Notice the 4 times the bible talks about focusing on "One Thing"
Behold the beauty of the Lord and inquire in His temple
Psalm 27:4 One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.
Notice the context is about not letting the fear of others distract you from God
Surrender all and follow Jesus
Luke 18:22 So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
Notice the context is about not letting riches distract you from God
Sit at Jesus' feet and hear His word
Luke 10:39-42 ...Mary... sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.... But Martha was distracted with much serving... And Jesus answered and said to her... one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.
Notice the context is about not letting service distract you from your dependence on God
Forget what's behind and press toward the goal
Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Notice the context is about not letting the past distract you from God
Priorities and The Heart
Notice that in Matthew 6, Jesus basically tells us not to do things to get noticed (verses 1-18), not to be obsessed with gaining riches (verses 19-24), and not to worry about getting what we need (verses 25-33). God knows what we need and will provide it; all He asks of us is to focus on is His kingdom and His righteousness, living one day at a time.
Notice how Jesus says, "Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:20-21. Whatever you value, whatever you set your affections on, is where your heart will be drawn to. We are to set our minds on things above, not on things on the earth (Colossians 3:2). When you read that in context you see this is connected with letting go of our old life "the old man and his deeds" and putting on the "new man", reflecting God's character in our relations with others.
20/20 Vision and Light to keep you from stumbling
Notice what Jesus says about having a good eye, that is to say, an eye that is focused: "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!" Matthew 6:22.
God's word is a light to our path and Jesus is the word in the flesh (Psalm 119:105, John 1:14). Jesus said, "If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world." John 11:9. "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." John 8:12
"The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts." Romans 13:12-14

Out With The Old, In With The New
This bible study focuses explores the concept of "displacement" in which we're told to discard something for something better. The concept can be found throughout the whole bible, so here we only listed verses from the New Testament Epistles.
Put Off | Put On |
Ephesians 4:22 Put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts | Ephesians 4:24 Put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. |
Romans 13:12 Cast off | Romans 13:12, 14 |
Colossians 3:8-9 | Colossians 3:10 Put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him. Colossians 3:12-15 Put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. |
Similar passages:
Colossians 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, | Colossians 3:1-3 |
Hebrews 12:1 | Hebrews 12:1b-2 Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. |
James 1:21a Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness | James 1:21b Receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. |

How To Have A Clean New Life
We Can't Cleanse Ourselves
Job 14:4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one!
God Cleanses Those Who Confess
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The Cleansing Power of God's Word
John 15:3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
Question: What does 1 John 1:7 mean about Jesus' blood cleansing us from sin? Answer: "For the life of the flesh is in the blood" (Leviticus 17:11). Jesus said, "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63
Psalm 119:9
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
Psalm 33:9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
The Word Accompanied with Faith
Romans 10:17 ...faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God
Habakuk 2:4
Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.
Hebrews 4:2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
Jesus Gives You Faith
Hebrews 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Not A Creed, But A Life
To believe on Christ is to receive Christ; not to assent to a creed, but to accept a life; not to strive for the maintenance of certain outward forms, but to become “partakers of the divine nature.” 2 Peter 1:4. Creeds and forms cannot save people from their sins. Terrible is the catalogue of the sins of those “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” 2 Timothy 3:1-5. A new life must be imparted before man can “live unto God.” “Except a man be born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3. “For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.” Galatians 6:15, R.V. This experience depends upon the faith which each one exercises for himself, and “it is of faith, that it might be by grace.” Romans 4:16. To all who sincerely pray the prayer, “Create in me a clean heart,” (Psalm 51:10), the reply comes, “Believe ye that I am able to do this?... According to your faith be it unto you.” Matthew 9:28, 29. “And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4); but faith for victory is the “faith which worketh by love.” Galatians 5:6. {WWP, BEST 138.2}
Jesus Literally Imparts His Life
“They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” This world is a vast lazar [leprosy] house, but Christ came to heal the sick, to proclaim deliverance to the captives of Satan. He was in Himself health and strength. He imparted His life to the sick, the afflicted, those possessed of demons. He turned away none who came to receive His healing power. DA 823
Jesus Bears Our Sins Upon Himself
Isaiah 53:4-6 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Your sin is traded for His righteousness
2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Christ in You, The Hope of Glory
Colossians 1:27 ...Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Jesus Tempted With Your Temptations, But Without Sin
Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Dead To Sin, Alive to God
Romans 6:10-11 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Sin Has No More Dominion Over You
Romans 6:14
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
God Gives You A New Heart To Serve Him
Ezekiel 36:26-28 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God.
Take Jesus' Yoke, Learn of Him, He Bears The Load
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
God Works In You The Desire and The Power to Do His Will
Philippians 2:13
for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Jesus's Example: He Depended on The Father
John 5:30
I can of Myself do nothing.... I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father...
We Are To Depend on Jesus
John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
The Mind of Christ
Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Steps to Victory
The idea for this post came from the first book of the 40 Days of Prayer Series
1. Turn your mind to healthier thoughts
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
2. Believe in the Holy Spirit's power to break the power of sin
Romans 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
3. Believe Jesus is in you through the Holy Spirit
1 John 4:13 By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.
1 John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
4. Ask Jesus to manifest His victory over specific temptation, pointing to specific promises from God's word that reveal His will about said temptations.
1 John 5:14-15 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
1 Corinthians 1:30 ....Christ Jesus... became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption
5. Believe Jesus will manifest His victory over the temptation, rest in that belief by leaving it in His hands. The only real “struggle” is to keep resting in that belief (Hebrews 4:11). Jesus promises rest to those who come to Him (Matthew 11:28).
Mark 11:24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
6. Don’t obsess over the temptation, resist the urge to fight it in your own strength (you left the burden in His hands, leave it there). Turn your attention away from self to Jesus by faith, and let Him fight and give you the victory. Your faith is to be founded on Him, not yourself (faith itself is a gift from God)
2 Chronicles 20:15 ....Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
When God speaks, it's done, His word doesn't come back empty. (Psalm 33:9, Isaiah 55:11). He "calls those things which do not exist as though they did" (Romans 4:17). God literally puts faith inside of you by "hearing, and hearing by the word of God" Romans 10:17.
7. Thank God for the victory you have in Jesus
1 Corinthians 15:57
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus' Circles of Relationship
Jesus had three circles of relationships: The outer circle, the second circle, and the inner circle. His outer circle included enemies and people who were curious but had no interest in believing in Him. His outer circle also included people He invested in for a brief time and then moved on, like with the Samaritan woman and the demoniacs. Your outer circle consists of casual acquaintances we may interact with in public settings.
In Jesus' second circle, He had the 70 and the 12 disciples. Like Jesus, your second circle consists of people who you can reach out to, share God's love, and disciple so that they can share God's love with others. This circle consists of people who you decide to invest in for God's kingdom. Then there's your inner circle, which consists of people you can trust enough to lean on for support. For Jesus, this included Peter, James, John, Mary Magdalene, Martha, Lazarus, and Mary (Jesus' mother). It takes time to develop trust and because of limited time, you can't have too many people in your inner circle.
Your outer circle challenges you to get out of your comfort zone. Your second circle is about investing in others intentionally, it involves dealing with their personal issues, and it helps you grow. The inner circle is where people can confront you and encourage you to believe what God says about you instead of worrying what other people think. We need inner circle people to help keep our eyes on Jesus.
Jesus provides us with an example of what to do when people fail us. He kept Peter in His inner circle even though He knew that he would deny Him three times. When we are loving even to those who fail us, we show them what God is like: Loving others without expecting love in return. But sometimes people don't want you to invest in them, so you'll have to let them go. This doesn't mean you don't love them, but if you don't let them go and let them reap what they sow, you prevent them from being able to repent.

Learn of Him, Know Him, Abide in Him
Jesus is surrendered to the Father's will
John 5:30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
Jesus does what The Father does
John 5:19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner."
Jesus says what The Father says
John 8:28
Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.
Abide in Jesus
John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
Walk as He walked
1 John 2:6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
Jesus' invitation to learn of Him
Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Be taught of Him, put on the new man
Ephesians 4:21-24 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Follow His Steps
1 Peter 2:21-24 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: “Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”; who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
Focus on your own walk with Jesus
John 21:20-22 Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”
How to know we know Him and abide in Him
1 John 2:3-5 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
1 John 3:24-23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
1 John 3:6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
1 John 4:12-16 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God
1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
Eternal life is about knowing God and Jesus Christ
John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
The Holy Spirit Testifies of Jesus
John 15:26 But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
The Knowledge of Christ is to be Supreme in our minds
1 Corinthians 2:2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
Philippians 3:8-11 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
2 Corinthians 10:4-6 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
God knows His own and His own know Him
John 10:14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.
Glory in Knowing The Lord
Jeremiah 9:23-24
Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.
The Knowledge of the Holy One is Understanding
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Get To Know Him, Let Him Be Your Treasure
Proverbs 2:3-5 Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.
Job 22:21-28 Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; Thereby good will come to you. Receive, please, instruction from His mouth, And lay up His words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up; You will remove iniquity far from your tents. Then you will lay your gold in the dust, And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks. Yes, the Almighty will be your gold And your precious silver; For then you will have your delight in the Almighty, And lift up your face to God. You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows. You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.

Philippians 1:9-11 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

How to become sweet and winsome

Ephesians 4:29-32 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Psalm 19:7-10 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Psalm 119:9-12 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes.
Psalm 119:103-104 How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.
Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.
Proverbs 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold In settings of silver.
Proverbs 27:9 (NASB) Oil and incense bring joy to the heart, and the sweetness of a friend is counsel to the soul.
Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones
Just like it's a bee's work to make honey, it's God's work that we "believe in Him whom He sent". John 6:29. Jesus is the bread of life that gives life to our souls when we come to Him in faith and yet we wouldn't even be able to come if it weren't for God drawing us (John 6:35, 44). When we've tasted the goodness of God which leads us to repentance, we will want to invite others to taste and see that the Lord is good. (Romans 2:4, Psalm 34:8). As long as God is working in us "both to will and to do for His good pleasure", we won't be found "complaining and disputing" Philippians 2:13-14.
If we would fill our mouths everyday with thanksgiving and praise for every good and perfect gift that comes from God, we wouldn't even have time for grumbling against one another. (James 1:17, Psalm 71:8). We are to be a good witness of a good God who withholds no good thing from them who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11). Pursue what is good for all, rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks (Thessalonians 5:15-18). "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled" Hebrews 12:14-15.
The next time you're tempted to become impatient, sing praises to God who is "longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9
