"And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." Matthew 25:40. Notice that Jesus responds to the righteous as King, but when He responds to those on his left hand in verse 45, He doesn't. Unless Jesus is our King in our hearts, then we are not truly serving Him.
How it is that we are serving Jesus when we're providing for other people's needs? It's because Jesus bore the suffering that everyone would ever experience, all at once (Isaiah 53:4). Therefore, when you relieve the suffering of others, you are in essence, relieving Jesus from suffering because He already bore it.
Chapter 43 of Isaiah reminds us that Jesus is our Maker and Redeemer, we belong to Him, so why not let Him be king of your heart?
Who has the heart? With whom are our thoughts? Of whom do we love to converse? Who has our warmest affections and our best energies? If we are Christ's, our thoughts are with Him, and our sweetest thoughts are of Him. All we have and are is consecrated to Him. We long to bear His image, breathe His spirit, do His will, and please Him in all things. SC 58
