The battle and the Victory is the Lord's

Crucifying self, yoked to Christ, bearing each other's burdens

The yoke and the cross are symbols representing the same thing,—the giving up of the will to God. Wearing the yoke unites finite man in companionship with the dearly beloved Son of God. Lifting the cross cuts away self from the soul, and places man where he learns how to bear Christ's burdens. [RH October 23, 1900]

In accepting Christ’s yoke of restraint and obedience, you will find that it is of the greatest help to you. Wearing this yoke keeps you near the side of Christ, and He bears the heaviest part of the load [OHC 100].

Abiding in Christ's love, loving one another
John 15:9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
John 13:35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
1 John 3:17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

1 Peter 3:8-9 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

Looking to Jesus

As we thus dwell upon His great sacrifice for us, our confidence in Him will be more constant, our love will be quickened, and we shall be more deeply imbued with His spirit. If we would be saved at last, we must learn the lesson of penitence and humiliation at the foot of the cross. Desire of Ages, p. 83

Let this mind be in you

Victory is found in surrender

In the letter of James, we learn that temptation comes from being drawn by our own desires (James 1:14). In contrast, every good and perfect gift comes from God (James 1:17). We also learn that our fights with others originate from our own desires too (James 4:1). Next, we learn that following our desires or "friendship with the world" makes us adulterers and enemies of God (James 4:4). Like in the second chapter of the first epistle of John, we see a conflict between two different types of "love", the love of the world versus the love of the Father. (1 John 2:15-16).

Chapter thirteen of the first epistle to the Corinthians tells us how God's love differs from the love of the world. Notice how one of the characteristics of God's agape love is that it isn't self-seeking, it doesn't seek it's own way (1 Corinthians 13:5). You can know for sure that something doesn't come from God's agape love by whether or not it's self-seeking.

God's love isn't self-seeking, but self-denying, as seen in the giving of His Son to us (John 3:16). Also notice Jesus' self-denial when He prayed to the Father: "not My will, but Yours, be done." Luke 22:42. In the same context, He says: "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41

Victory over temptation is found in the humble prayer and self-denial. God resists the proud, but gives grace to and revives the spirit of the humble (Isaiah 57:15, James 4:6). "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded." James 4:7-8

Victory is found in surrendering to God and involves giving up what we want in exchange for what God wants for us.  We have a generous God who gave us His Son and is more willing to "give good things to those who ask Him" than we are to give good things to our own children. (Romans 8:32, Matthew 7:11). If we're willing, or even simply willing to be willing to surrender to God's will, He will give us His Holy Spirit so that He can live in us (Luke 11:13, John 14:23). "It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." Philippians 2:13
